We have decided to raise mixed breed meat rabbits for meat and fur. We have crossed in some Heritage Breed Rabbits (American Chinchilla) but find that a lot of Heritage Breeds are less hardy due to more inbreeding. We now have a wonderful colony for our girls and so far they are thriving.
Rabbits are a great food source for a homestead as well as for raw feeders (dogs, cats.) Plus, their is no waste! Their fur can be tanned and used to make footwear and clothing.
Because we raw feed we won’t have many available to sell, but you never know. It doesn’t hurt to ask.
